2019 – EMS Grievances

Do not presume or self interpret any information below for the means of practice of personal conduct.  If you have any questions regarding a grievance or policy issue, please contact one of your Union representatives.


2019-09-10A – Personal grievance Re. Termination
Status: Resolved – Agreed to settlement. Grievance withdrawn.
Synopsis: An employee was terminated, to which the Union believes was discriminatory practice by the employer.
Settlement: A settlement has been reached to the satisfaction of the employee, The grievance is withdrawn.

2019-09-06A – Personal grievance Re. Suspension
Status: Resolved – Agreed to settlement.
Synopsis: This grievance was in regards to a member that was suspended for not handing in certification records prior to the 72 hour deadline, however was not scheduled to work within that timeframe.
Settlement: Member impacted resolution is confidential without prejudice or precedence.

2019-07-02A- Group grievance Re. Failure to book on duty letters of discipline.
Status: Resolved – Agreed to settlement.
Synopsis: A new policy change requiring employees to call CACC at time of “crew change” as opposed to past practice of calling at shift start time. This was done at a time where a change of working conditions was on freeze.
Settlement: All letters of discipline to date will be rescinded and stricken from employee record and the new policy will be reissued  and explained for better future compliance.

2019-04-16B – Group/Policy grievance Re. Temporary Full Time vacation hours distribution.
Status: Resolved/Withdrawn – Agreed to settlement
Synopsis: Temporary Full time employee’s were not being given their vacation allotment in same manner as Full-time employees, where as they were accumulating it in small increments on bi-weekly basis.
Settlement: Temporary Full-time employee’s will be given their full vacation allotment at the beginning of the year, and will sign undertaking upon assignment in the event that they move back to regular part-time status.

2019-01-14A – Policy Grievance Re. Red light camera infractions
Status: Resolved/Withdrawn – Agreed to Settlement
Synopsis: The employer was forcing ownership of Red-light camera infractions on the employee that was found to be driving, but denying them their legal right to challenge the ticket in court while also forcing the employee to pay the cost of the infraction.
Settlement: The ticket itself will not be connected to the employee; meaning the employee will not have to pay for the infraction and it will not be directly attached to their file, however the infraction is still a notice of wrong doing and the employee may be subject to internal discipline as per policies & procedures.
